This weekend is going to be amazing, Lord willing. Why? I’m going to my very first author event. I’m actually on the banner. I’m going to be behind the table, in front of the table, somewhere around a table with my name on it, meeting readers, bloggers and other authors. I am ecstatic. I am excited. I’m as nervous as a hooker sitting in the back row of a Baptist church. (pretty darn nervous) I think if you listen hard enough, you can hear my knees knocking together in nervous anticipation. All of the usual questions and doubts are running through my head right now.
What if I wear the wrong thing? What if I say something stupid? What if no one comes to my table? Will I eat every last piece of chocolate I have with me and gain 20 lbs. before I get back home?
However, what’s amazingly awesome about all of the nerves and the anticipation is the fact that I’m not alone in this endeavor. I’ve seen various posts from other authors that seem to be just as nervous as I am. That helps. Not that I’m happy others are nervous, but at least I’m not alone in this.
In preparation for the event, I’ve read advice from other authors (thank you by the way for sharing) and I’m really looking forward to the experience even despite all of the nerves. Why? For one, I get to talk to people for three straight hours about…BOOKS. Oh MyLanta who doesn’t want that opportunity. I’m so looking forward to this.
But there are also other reasons.
- This is a challenge for me as it will get me out of my comfort zone. Being behind the screen of my laptop is where I feel the most comfortable, but sometimes we have to come out of that shell and push ourselves to go further and reach out to people.
- I’m looking forward to meeting and getting to know as many authors as I can. I’ve read their posts, read some of their work and it’s going to be awesome to put faces with names.
- I get to introduce my work to people who may have never read any of my books. I always look forward to telling someone new about my characters and my stories. I love them, so I’m hoping others will too.
So, for anyone who may be in the Greenville, NC area on Saturday, October 24th and you are looking for new authors and books to read, come to the Greenville Convention Center for #SASS15 from 12-3pm. We’d love to see you.
